Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award 2019/2020

Next academic year we will once again be offering the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award to Year 9 and 10 pupils. The training sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings after school and will run from 3.00pm to 5.00pm (start date Tuesday 8th October 2019). Training sessions will cover the practical skills required for the Expedition section of the Award, such as; map reading/compass work, tent pitching, and basic first aid. Pupils will also receive guidance on the three other sections required for the Bronze Award. Benefits The award is widely recognised by employers and people involved in education. Some of the benefits to young people include developing self-confidence and self-reliance; gaining a sense of achievement and a sense of responsibility; discovering new skills, interests and talents and developing leadership skills and abilities. They can also discover exciting opportunities; make new friends; experience teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making; increase their motivation; enhance their self-esteem and develop their communication skills. They will also, of course, have fun!  Any pupils who are interested please pick up a letter form Mr Fox in school or print one off from the website.

Sports Day 2019 at the Dell Stadium Friday 5 July 2019 9.45am

Our annual Sports Day offers an opportunity for all pupils to represent and support their House. This year again Sports Day will take place at The Dell Stadium, Bryce Road, Pensnett, Brierley Hill, DY5 4NE. Pupils will be competing in professional surroundings which offers the facilities required for a full range of sporting activities. We are able to invite Parents/Carers to the Stadium to see your sons or daughters to part in the different athletics events. Parents/Carers will be provided with their own spectator’s area. If anyone wishes to attend Sports Day please collect a ticket before the day from the School Reception. No admittance to the event will be allowed without prior collection of a parent ticket.

The 2019 Dormston Dance Showcase

The 2019 Dormston Dance Showcase will involve between 70-100 dancers on both evenings. The dancers have been working as hard and have put just the same amount of hours in as those did who were in High School Musical. There will be a varied range of styles involved in the performance from Jazz, Tap, ballet and even pointe work. Work is not only  choreography from Miss Kinight but choreography by the students as well.  Please come along on Thursday 20th June and Friday 21st June from beginning at 7.30pm and support our fantastic dancers.  Tickets are available for £5 from the Dormston Centre.

Alder Coppice Sports Day Friday 7 June 2019

Alder Coppice Sports Day Friday 7 June 2019, saw Mr P Amos and his team of Year 10’s take charge of Alder Coppice Sports Day at Aldersley Athletics Stadium. A very wet and cold Cameron Davies, Katie Morgan, Ruby Bradburn, Mia Emery, Adam Cox, Kyle Harper, Connor Prosser, Ellie Dovey, Madison Holding, Alex Malpass, Kirree Tannahill, Tabitha Cooper, Poppy Jones, Claire Berry, Isobel Eagle worked like troopers and saw the day out till the end.
