Drama - The Dormston School

Dormston’s Drama department comprises of Mrs Ainge, Mr Plant, Mr Dixon and Miss Sadler. Our lessons take place in our state of the art theatre and our dedicated drama studio space – equipped with lighting board for performance work.

In the drama department we are committed to developing pupils’ interest in a range of drama styles. It is key in promoting confidence and oracy as well as focusing upon performance skills.

There are a wide range of exciting opportunities to become involved in. These include: Dormston’s school productions, Key Stage 3 Drama club and the annual inter-house Arts’ competition.

Our KS3 curriculum covers a range of drama styles and genres. We explore both classical and modern influences of theatre as we focus upon the main components – devising, performance and theatre makers in practice.

Termly assessment in one of the three components across Key Stage 3 allows staff to track and monitor pupil attainment in each area.

We study Edexcel GCSE drama. The course focuses upon three components:

Component 2 – Performance from text Pupils perform two extracts from a text 20%

Component 3 – Theatre makers in practice. Pupils study one set text and answer questions on the set text. Watch a live performance and write a theatre evaluation. 40%
