Dormston’s Drama department comprises of Mrs Ainge, Mr Plant, Mr Dixon and Miss Sadler. Our lessons take place in our state of the art theatre and our dedicated drama studio space – equipped with lighting board for performance work.

In the drama department we are committed to developing pupils’ interest in a range of drama styles. It is key in promoting confidence and oracy as well as focusing upon performance skills.

There are a wide range of exciting opportunities to become involved in. These include: Dormston’s school productions, Key Stage 3 Drama club and the annual inter-house Arts’ competition.


Our KS3 curriculum covers a range of drama styles and genres. We explore both classical and modern influences of theatre as we focus upon the main components – devising, performance and theatre makers in practice.

Termly assessment in one of the three components across Key Stage 3 allows staff to track and monitor pupil attainment in each area.


We study Edexcel GCSE drama. The course focuses upon three components:

Component 1 – Devising Pupils devise a piece of theatre and record the process in a portfolio 40%

Component 2 – Performance from text Pupils perform two extracts from a text 20%

Component 3 – Theatre makers in practice. Pupils study one set text and answer questions on the set text. Watch a live performance and write a theatre evaluation. 40%

  • Year 10 and Year 11 theatre trips to Birmingham and London
